Preschool Philosophy

Excel preschool and pre-kindergarten classrooms honor and inspire the incredible connections that children infer about the objects, actions, and people in the world around them. Our preschool and pre-k classrooms harness the energy of learning to create a focused, engaged environment in which children are poised to thrive.

Through play and interactive dialogue, children are encouraged to express their own individuality, as well as appreciate the unique traits of others.

Preschool Curriculum

Our preschool and pre-kindergarten programs nurture inquisitive minds and refine core skills as children prepare to enter kindergarten. With a variety of learning labs throughout the room, children are encouraged to explore at their own pace and experiment with new concepts and skills. Our enhanced literacy program enables children to advance their verbal, written, and aural language aptitude. In every classroom, our approach is customized for each individual child across four key areas: Citizen, Scholar, Mind, and Body.

A “Day in the Life” of Our Preschool & Pre -K Classrooms
Whole Group Circle

Each day begins in a whole group circle to set the learning intention for the day. With whole group circles interspersed throughout the day, children explore themes and concepts together as they share ideas, interact, and gain confidence.

Small Group Rotations

Children pursue their passions and acquire new knowledge through a combination of free choice and teacher-led activities. Center-based learning enables exploration through play, direct instruction, math, science, writing, and sensory experiences.

Montessori-Inspired Elements

Montessori-inspired practices around choice, discovery, and independence encourage inquiry-based learning. Mixed age classrooms enable peer mentoring and reciprocal learning opportunities.

Play, Play, Play

At Excel, we deeply cherish play-based learning through playful interactions amongst peers, with teachers, and in independent settings. With open-ended materials, children are encouraged to explore, create, and question a variety of learning topics as they freely and imaginatively investigate the world around them

Playground Time

Our program provides a balanced developmental approach emphasizing language and literacy in the context of physical, emotional, and interpersonal development, math, science, social studies, music, movement, and art

Rest

After lunch, a designated nap time helps children calm their bodies and rejuvenate.
